Every apprentice is now required to complete 18 hours of community service per school year.

Kalamazoo Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (KJATC) expects that it’s apprentices develop a sense of social responsibility beneficial to the community.  The KJATC believes that by the apprentices volunteering in a service-learning project, they will develop a service ethic and gain a deeper understanding of the ties of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association with the community.  Service-learning involves apprentices in community service, which provides the opportunity to develop or strengthen a service ethic.  Through service learning, apprentices broaden their knowledge and personal development by participating in community-based activities that earn service-learning credits.   Each apprentice is required to have 18 service hours in by July 1, 2019.
