If you are an IBEW Local 131 member and would like an ID card for your safety training, please stop in to get your picture taken. The ID card will be mailed to you. We put all of your safety training records into a database for our members. Your records will show the date you obtained the training as well as the expiration date.

Photovoltaics
This class will cover the principles of photovoltaics and how to effectively incorporate PV systems into stand-alone or interconnected electrical systems. The student will learn system advantages and disadvantages, site evaluation, component operation system design, and sizing and installation requirements and recommended practices.
September 8th - October 13th, 2010. (Wednesdays).
Class will begin at 5:30 to 10:00 PM.

OSHA 10
This course is specific to our industry and covers several topics on safety including an introduction to OSHA and the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and how they apply to safety. This course can provide the 10 hour OSHA card.
Class will be on September 8th - September 22nd, 2010 (Wednesdays).
Class will start at 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM.
Class will be limited to the first 25 who sign up.
Cost of the class will be $25.00 and MUST be paid prior to the class date.

CPR
This class will teach CPR, choking and rescue breathing for adults (ages 9 and up), Infants and Children, use of an AED (automated external defibrillator) as well as first aid skills. CPR certificate is valid for one (1) year and First Aid certificate is valid for three (3) years.
Class will be on September 11th, 2010 (Saturday).
One day, 8 Hours.
Class will begin at 8:00 AM.
$50 Deposit due when signing up for the class.

Code Update 2008
This class will discuss the significant changes to the NEC 2008, with an emphasis on the 100 most important changes in the 2008 NEC. The effect of each change is described in detail. This class is approved for Michigan Code Update Class.

Fiber Optics
This class will provide an in-depth understanding of how optical systems operate. It will cover the different types of fiber optic joints and their applications, fiber optic color code, the differences between mechanical and fusion splicing, and the application and operation of optical test equipment. There will be hands-on fiber connections.

Fire Alarms Course
This class will begin with the history of fire alarm signaling and then work to develop an understanding of the state-of-the-art technology available today. Topics also covered include basic requirements such as fire protection systems types, power supplies, monitoring for integrity and wiring. This course will lead to a NICET exam preparation.
November 3rd - December 22nd, 2010. (Wednesdays).

70E Electrical Safety Course
It is the purpose of this training to familiarize people employed in the electrical industry with safe working practices as described in NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace and the hazards associated with Arc Flash.
December 1st, 8th, and 15th, 2010. (Wednesdays).
Cost of the class is $25.00 and is due BEFORE the class date.
Medium Cable Splice
This class is a hands-on course consisting of 30-class room hours. We will concentrate on 5kV or 15kV hand-taped splices and terminations.
January 12th through February 23rd, 2011. (Wednesdays).
Class will be limited to the first 16 who sign up.
